Mr. D. : "What must we do to translate well?"
Mr. B. of the Translation Consulting Committee answers: "When we translate we must keep the meaning of the text in our language. The meaning must be clear, accurate and not sound strange. We must not translate word for word."
Mrs. N. of the Translation Consulting Committee answers: "I totally agree with Mr. B but it is difficult to avoid translating literally. There is a method that I have used successfully. First, I make sure that I understand the meaning of the paragragh that I want to translate. Then I retell the meaning into a tape recorder. I listen to the tape and write what I said down. I have found that when I do that this, is not only easier but it is also more natural. I tend to use the grammar of my language and not grammar of the other language. I invite you to try this method. Please write us and let us know how it worked. Do any of our other readers have any suggestions?
Thank you Mr D. for this important question,
